…In this liminal space…
I will explore the wealth of synchronicities I find in literature, film, music, mythology, society, the cosmos and occult, and poetry (including mine). Magic saturates everything around and within us; writing is how I attune to and commune with it.
…Between What Was…
Early in the pandemic, my partner introduced me to the podcast Tarot for the End of Times, hosted by Sarah Cargill. In episode 10, Cargill discusses the 7th Major Arcana: the Chariot and narrates a mythic tale to characterize the archetype. In the story, after greeting the mythical sphinxes, the Charioteer crests a hill overlooking their home. There, they reflect on how the sum of their experiences thus far could be held in such a seemingly small vessel.
“Perspective is a kind of magic,” Cargill remarks, “in this liminal space between what was and what’s to come.” A mantra, a call-in, a sturdy stone underfoot, this sentiment has lived rent-free in my head and heart ever since. As a magician of letters (read: poet), I hold a reverence for the potent infinity that precedes becoming and the becoming itself: the word/poem/myth/magic/creation.
Now that Mercury has stationed direct in Leo and Venus, blessed by transiting Jupiter, has returned to my third house of Cancer, I feel much like the Charioteer: ready to alchemize my experiences thus far and embark on this creative journey.
…And what’s to come…
Perspectives is an exercise in revitalizing my writing practice and honoring the muses and ancestors who inspire me to create. It’s also about courage, the courage to be seen in a different light. As a spoken word poet, I developed an ease with being on stage, emboldened by the degrees of separation: poet>stage>mic>poem>audience. In a way, the stage was a shield behind which I felt secure enough to get vulnerable.
But essays on the internet? Ephemerality exchanged for digital perpetuity? That hits different. And well, that’s the point. I want to write in new dimensions and be seen from new angles. I also want to learn from your perspectives, dear readers.
I believe there’s magic and wonder worth living—and fighting—for in this f@scist dystopia. Let this become a garden of new ideas where kin and comrades foster community, solidarity, and hope.
New perspectives will drop weekly-ish as I refine my writing cadence. Subscribe to stay tuned!
